Areas of Specialization:
Work involves evaluation of kidney biopsies using light microscopy, electron microscopy, as well as immunohistochemistry techniques (immunofluorescence/immunoperoxidase microscopy). Evaluates approximately 800-1000 biopsies per year by light and electron microscopy, and 50% of biopsies using immunofluorescence, and/or immuno-peroxidase techniques. The above is complimented by teaching, and animal as well as clinico-pathological research.

Teaching:
1. Trains pathologists, nephrologists, pathology and nephrology fellows, and medical students through classroom lectures, and at individual levels.
2. Participates as Director in the 3 day course entitled "Pathology of Medical Renal Diseases", sponsored by the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology and the American Registry of Pathology since l980 to present. Developed 50 sets of 30 cases each with slide sets and case histories, quizzes and other audio-visual aids.
3. Participates in kidney biopsy conferences with staff, residents, and fellows at Georgetown University Hospital, D.C. General Hospital, Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Providence Hospital Washington, D. C., and National Naval Medical Center, Bethesda, Maryland, l976 to present.
4. Participated in developing and hosting the "Federal Renal Biopsy Conference" started by the Division, for pathologists and nephrologists from local federal, and civilian Institutions, l983-1987.
5. Participates in the CME program, Department of Pathology, Washington Hospital Center, Washington D.C. 1981 to present.
6. Participates by giving seminars for the Resident Training Program, Dept. of Pathology, National Naval medical Center, Bethesda, Maryland, 1986 to present.

8. Participates in the training program for nephrology and pathology fellows by giving series of lectures, at the Divisions of Nephrology and Pathology, WRAMC, Washington, D.C., 1988 to present.
9. Participates in the "Case of the Month" a VA Quality Control Program (1976 to present), and "Case for Diagnosis " publication in Military Medicine (1976-1993) sponsored by the AFIP. 10. Participate as Faculty in a half-day seminar for the AFIP Annual General Pathology Course, April 1991 to present.
Administrative Experience:
1. As Assistant to the Division Chief (1976-1993), and as Chief of the Division (1994 to present).
2. Supervises the day to day operations of the Division which includes prompt evaluation of the case material, and reporting of results in a timely manner. Supervision of secretarial activities, and laboratory personnel. Preparation of various documents including; staff evaluations, Research Progress Report, the Annual Report, and other administrative documents to support the mission.
3. As Registrar, supervises and participates in the activities of American Registry of Nephropathology.
4. Supervision, teaching, and evaluation of Fellows rotating through the Division.
5. Initiates and develops research protocols, various teaching aids, and manuscripts.
